ef sedan stall out issue need help!

So just traded for this ef sedan past owner said it would run for a couple miles then shut off and take about 4 minutes to start again I was thinking it sounded like a ignition issue or fuel pump any one have any ideas or have this issue before also said it needed a tps which I just ordered

cbaracing 12-05-2013 01:56 PM

its not the tps

what check engine lights does it have?

$G1$ 12-05-2013 02:34 PM

Code 7 I was told but they said besides the tps I already know thats a seperate issue I just dont know were to start on the stalling issue I was thinking ignition control modual or coil or diZzy itself?

cbaracing 12-05-2013 02:50 PM

code 7 is the tps

no other codes?

what model sedan is it? DX, LX or EX?

icm, coil or distributor either work or they dont

Did some reasearch seams like a common problem for the icm to intermittently work and stop working im gona try that and then see were i go from there thanks bro for the info

cbaracing 12-05-2013 03:47 PM

never seen that happen in all my years of owning them but anything is possible. distribunators are the weak link in hondas

$G1$ 12-05-2013 04:04 PM

I was thinking replace the whole thing its cheap enough to were it just makes sense

cbaracing 12-05-2013 04:08 PM

thats probably easiest. 3 bolts replaces the distributor

so the car is dpfi and it's shutting off?

BigCountry 12-09-2013 02:01 PM

It happened to me personally on my civic and since working at O'Reilly I've seen 5-6 different Honda products have a bad ignition control module. They all, except one, simply replaced it and had zero problems afterward.

he said he had never seen them have intermittent problems. And they were in fact OEM honda parts? I've seen distributors fail obviously but an intermittent ICM failure is a little strange.

BigCountry 12-09-2013 03:16 PM

Yeah every single one I've tested for those customers were oem parts. My car would run fine until it got up to temp and then it wouldn't stay running. Let it cool down and it would be fine.
