Complete D series info
Some good info in here for those of you who want to build a sohc for an allmotor application. Contrary to belief they can make very good power when you put them on the same level as a b/h/f/k series in terms of compression and displacement.
enjoy you sohc heads lol fully built N/A sohc: some "race" d's: converting from dpfi to mpfi on ef's |
I'm building a D15B7 engine with a stage 1 cam, H beams, 8.5:1 pistons, ARP head studs/nuts, ported & polished head, 50-1 Garrett, and Neptune and can't wait! Oh yay...running a HF trans for fun...boost for days. Bump for a cool ass sticky post!
with the right bolt ons to go with that compression it should be fun... im thinking 140-150 whp and decent torque. will def put the hurting on stock b series.
haha sounds like fun in deed! thanks too btw :)
great thread--built sohc's are sexy
yes they can be...im trying to research a semi built d16z6 and cant find one....freakin driving me nuts lol
D series mini me Q and A
a d16a6 block and a d16z6 head is a very good mini me build with some boolt ons and it will be quik
its alot of work....but hey the end result is what matters i love my SOHC
turbooooooo
i was going to build a d series for a longggg time just never got the guts to do it.. still have the pistons and rods to do it just never actually went for it..
its possible, but it would take a lot of work... a lot of guys get their builds into the 175 hp range with all oem internals and a good cam.
just look at the threads i posted and do some research... i actually would love to build a nasty ass SOHC. oh wait i have a single cam... in my V8 hahahahaha |
looking to do this build real soon. any suggestions to help increase hp??
cam, high comp pistons, etc...
mine is almost done...cant wait...i need a couple more parts...
so im thinking of rebuilding my a6 block with a machined crank (since it has a spun bearing) and using sum 88-89 integra pistons with the z6 head. that should give me a decent amount of power right? is there anything specific i will need to do such a build?
uhhh... what?
???
so you are using zc pistons instead of the d16a6?
yeah i would like to. they would give me more compression but i am concerned with the stroke. they are a lifted piston so i dont know if i could use them or if i had to change to a thicker head gasket or what. thats why i was asking if there is anything more specific i would have to do with that kinda build. thanks for the input...
DOHC ZC pistons at that. :lmao:
I'm sure there is a better alternative |
Not really. There's isn't a large aftermarket support for D-Series.
No, you do not have to use a thicker head gasket. Heck, go ahead and use a Z6/Y8 gasket instead of the D16A6 gasket (0.037 vs 0.048). There are actually 2 different "styles" of pistons. The difference between the two is seperated by what year DOHC ZC/D16A1 they came from (or are for). 1 style has a fairly large dome and a slightly lower compression height than the D16A6 pistons (88-89), the other style has a very small dome and a slightly higher compression height than the D16A6 pistons (86-87). The more common style is the 88-89 because with the compression height of the piston being lower, you do not run into any kind of risk of piston-to-deck issues. It's actually lower (numerically higher) than stock D16A6 pistons. The 86-87 style are basically zero piston-to-deck (according to zealautowerks), which is why they aren't that common of a piston swap. That is THE ONLY GOOD online calculator for Honda's. |
so... D16a1 (dohc zc) will drop right into an A6 engine? hmm.. learn something new everyday.
is it just me, or do they not show the 88-89 ZC A1 pistons? |
They're both 75mm bore. Both styles of ZC pistons and D16A6 pistons have very similar compression heights.
FYI - all D13's through D17's are 75mm bore. FYI x2 - yes, there is such a thing as a D13. It's 75mm bore/73.5mm stroke! It's oversquare like a B16! The D14 is 75mm bore/79mm stroke. IMO, best D-Series block. |
Jesus simon u need to get out more lol
Jk luvu Thnx for the input |
i'm glad you came in here to clear these things up i was just going to have to type a large post...
and imagine throwing that down in your sig like hte people who say 85x89... oh yeah, 75x79 motherfucker! <3 babycakes. |
good shit!! thanks guys. will let you know how build comes along when i start next month.
Hahahahaha
lolz
I might have to source a D14 longblock and build one for a daily. Then join H-T just to make a sig that says that! |
ya well mine is 3.9 x 3.622
beat that! |
