Upping The Compression on B16
was just wondering... could I just put in high compression pistons on a stock b16 and benefit without tuning?
|
Tunning is key.
|
must tune yes
|
x 1 million
tune your car and do everything needed or just leave it stock |
or find a virgin ctr ecu. tuning is important though....
|
ummm. if u wanna little bit of a compression hike and not really change the type of gas you need to run and get away with not tuning. you can remove the head and get it milled a little bit and drop to a thinner head gasket. while you are doing that you can invest in some new rings since the motor is gonna be apart that could help with cylinder compression if your rings are worn at all.

Well I wouldn't mind using 91 octane. What could I bump it up to safely?
|
Your suppose to use 91 anyways....
|
Tune
but you could probably go 11.5:1 on 91 octane with no tuning, add some ITR/CTR cams and ecu and your set. |
you could more than likely get your stock b16 dyno tuned by a professional and it would make more power than a higher compression piston setup that isnt tuned, as long as the stock one is tuned right.
what kind of gas do you normally use? |
^^^^^ what he said!!!!!!!!!
|
yeah if ur in a stock b16 and not using 91.........:hithead:
|
one of my friends had a single cam with 13:1 on race gas with no tuning.
It had all stock parts from like four different SOHC motor. my point being, possible? yes. Practical and safe, NO. Get the right parts and get it tuned. |
That's completely up to the tune. I've seen 9:1cr motors that HAVE to run 100LL fuel, and I've seen 12:1cr motors that can get away with pump gas. You can detune a motor and take enough timing out to compensate for shitty fuel as needed (within reason), just like you can take advantage of better fuels without adding compression if you've got the right combination of parts that can take advantage of the needed additional timing.

x2 what Kyle said.
My vote: pull the head, mill it .010 or .015, get ITR cams and intake valve springs, move your current intake valve springs to the exhaust side. Fairly cheap and won't NEED a tune but you should anyways. |
lucky him, i got both for sale itr ecu and cams...lol
