ebay performance chips

I'v read alot about these, and seen em for cheeeeap on ebay, but are they really worth the usual 30 or 40 bucks?? Looks like i could get this one with free shipping for 25 bucks, the guys got like 100% good comments,

whats the downside to this? Has anyone ever gotten this shit? i'd expect it could trigger the CEL or just straight up corrupt the ecm, but other than that, its cheap power, any past experiences?

Well 1st off they will not be programs that are specifically for your setup. It will most likey be some "Spoon, Skunk2 or Jun" copy that will have way to much fue (bogging it down and running rich)l due to being specd for the for race motors or be too much timing (you will lean out on fuel and can cause detonation and motor damage). 2nd if you do not alread have a ECU that has been chipped and socketed it will not just plug in. You have to buy the socket and correct resistors and have some one like us solder it in for you. So save yourself some money and not do it twice. We do it all here with a program made for the setup you are running for 100.00.

flame on, but really with my budget right now, theres not much to do when you get bored of your car

Mr.Teal 10-24-2009 03:08 PM

save and buy real wheels, lip, headlights, new motor, seats, yada yada yada

it takes money to have and do the finer things in life. well worth it if you ask me....:flush:

Method520 10-24-2009 03:15 PM

im going to do that stuff as soon as i reach my prefered max savings point for school, which will probably be toward the end of this year, but right now i cant spend all that money, and i dont think visually cheap mods like fabbing my interior, stenciling and painting honda on my mud flaps is gunna make me feel sadisfied.

and seats?? i love my stock seats, way more confortible than any aftermarket racing shit ppl buy

Mr.Teal 10-24-2009 03:17 PM

I figured you wanted to build a nice car... Do what you want.....

Method520 10-24-2009 03:22 PM

im just saying, its gunna be time before anyone sees the real work, for now its just side work like new center console.. and a window crank handle

Jason.AZ1 10-24-2009 03:41 PM

When it comes to your motor and how its going to run etc.. dont be cheap that ebay 25 buck chip is gonna cost you a 300+ motor once you blow it,
if anything look for a chip p28 and get a basemap for your motor
or save for a tune. those ebay chips dont do shit and will cause damage like BBN said

People like you fuck the game up because of your attitude,
because he doesn't want to spend 1500 on wheels or buy a 800 bumper etc.. doesn't mean his car wont/cant be nice.

Method520 10-24-2009 03:49 PM

:wave1:

ill look into it

Dead Bird 10-24-2009 04:53 PM

codey has a "skunk2" chip from ebay in his car right now...
and that was once in my DA for the entire time i owned it...
and Dead bird when i had no third gear, and when we raced down union hills that sooo memorable night.

I am by no means saying to get it, but just saying sometimes you can luck out.

Method520 10-24-2009 08:03 PM

as if the other ones wouldn't? dont they all do the same thing, just plug an ohm resistor to the MAF sensor, anyways i dont see the big dmg they could do if they dont even deal with altering anything like the speed governor. well i pmd notorious, and he might help me out here with this ecu/conversion stuff.

Jason.AZ1 10-24-2009 08:19 PM

The Chip he is talking about is a normal chip with a basemap for lets say type-r

Daddy_Digital 10-24-2009 08:54 PM

well said sir!!

Built By Notorious 10-24-2009 09:43 PM

These type items trick the computer to add or take away fuel at a preset value... Not how the ECU does per throttle position % and how much load is on the car under driving conditions. If you do not allow the ECU to adjust the ait fuel ratio properly it could lean out under load and detonate and melt a piston... PM'd Back.

We do use a standard chip and socket set up on obd0 and obd1 Ecu's but we put the proper maps on the eprom per the setup. He has a d16y7 so a ITR map would not work for him.

Jason.AZ1 10-24-2009 09:53 PM

I was talking about deadbird reply to mine he said his chip was from ebay
but he bought a normal chip with just a random basemap ex: itr base map
I wasnt saying Method520 should get a itr basemap

the "chip" Method520 wanting to buy is different from deadbirds/the chips you guys uses

I agree with you guys thats why I told him to get a sockected ecu with tune/basemap for his set up

Got ya... Sorry, thought that was more directed to me. Thanks for helping!

Jason.AZ1 10-24-2009 09:58 PM

:goodjob:

Method520 10-24-2009 10:20 PM

that was useless, ^^ under my circumstances thats pretty irrelevant :whore:

Anyways, notorious might be setting me up with an obd2b to obd1 conversion with a harness, and an already chipped ecu for roughly 200. Im not sure if thats a bargain but im looking around and we could be in some business here.

thanks for the input all

Jason.AZ1 10-24-2009 11:15 PM

good

usdm420 10-27-2009 02:36 PM

IMO if you're running a fairly stock SOHC motor (I/H/E)....chipping your ECU really isn't necessary.
But it's your money.

Medina 01-07-2010 02:06 AM

lol that is not a chip it is a $.10 resistor with a fancy box, wires and some plastics. Thought u guys knew better

that one guy 01-07-2010 02:12 AM
