Rant about my gout...

After doing an hour of research about what my options are as far as weight training supplements, I've learned that 3 of the most commonly used, and studied, supplements are bad for gout. What the hell. Seriously.

One of the three is protein powder, in general. They said that overloading the body in protein will increase the amount of purines in the body which my body can't, apparently, break down correctly all the way. I don't honestly think they know how long I've been taking protein supplements for and I haven't had any gout attacks that I can directly relate to them. A long weekend of drinking in Mexico with a bit of shrimp in my food (shellfish are no good for gout, they say), has made me feel something before. Fine, but never from protein shakes. F*** you researchers that ruin my so called "healthy" desserts and meal replacement shakes. I'm not getting rid of that. Hell no.

The second is creatine of any sort. I get that it puts a load on your kidneys and I get that my gout medication also puts a load on the kidneys. It's just a really f***ing inconvenient truth, especially because I wanted to pair it with beta alanine, since that's supposed to be the "magic elixir" of sorts. Sucks to be me.

They also said to be a little careful of beta alanine. Fantastic.

Seriously, natural weight loss is good shit. I get it, but let a guy get a break for trying to buy things to make himself a little healthier once in a while. Jeebus.

/end rant

goat. lol. It's gout.

It depends. Are you on any uric acid lowering medication? Colchicine? Allopurinol? Colcrys? Uloric?

Are you taking any meds like colchicine or uloric? You should get a blood test to see what your purine levels are.

I'm not sure about the other guy, but I take allopurinol every day and colchicine on those days where my joint is sore or I think something could happen.
