maybe it's cheaper, & you actually get like 30-50 turns in under a minute, unlike roadracing... & yes the disadvantage is it's over in 30-60seconds...

Autox is where you should start. I actually think it's just as fun because it is so much more intense. While you're not moving as fast, the turns come at you about 5x faster and it's overload on the brain!

Pros
- Cheap
- Safe
- You can drive at and beyond the limit w/o (much) risk to you or your car
- Better than drag racing (i.e. more fun, less waiting, more driving)

Cons
- Not much seat time
- Lots of waiting around and working

The problem with jumping right into track days is you never get to experience driving at the limit prior to taking turns at triple digit speeds. The end result is typically a totalled car the first time a novice drives slightly over the limit. The flip side is driving well within your limit and taking things slow. The problem with that is you're typically SLOW for a VERY long time. If you autox first (and get good at it), you can usually get up to speed at the HPDE events much quicker than someone who started before you.
